Company dips into the luxury resort market, gains momentum providing modular hotels across the United States.

Troy, MI (PRWEB) April 24, 2013

Champion Commercial Structures, a division of Champion Home Builders, Inc., the leading commercial modular supplier in North America, today announced that it has begun construction of an 83 room hotel for Jay Peak Resort, a luxury ski resort in Northern Vermont. The project marks the seventh hotel project undertaken by Champion Commercial Structures in the past 12 months.

With simultaneous hotel projects located in Louisiana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Vermont, Champion is able to demonstrate the company’s unique geographic reach by leveraging its 30 manufacturing facilities strategically located across North America and the United Kingdom.

“A year ago, we began our push to encourage hotel franchisees and owners to consider modular construction because it offers a measurable advantage over other construction methods. After all, while the cost of modular construction may be similar to traditional building methods, it is always faster, and when it comes to hotel room rates – time is truly money,” said Jack Lawless, Chief Executive Officer, Champion Home Builders. “Over the last year, several national hotel chains have employed Champion’s modular solution, including La Quinta, Microtel and Comfort Inn, as well as several independent labels such as Serka (SRK) Hospitality, Stay USA and Dakota Landing.”

In addition to constructing the modules for the project, Champion frequently performs additional scopes of work, assuming responsibility for the hotel building from the foundation to completion. By packaging the modular solution with other site trades, Champion is able to offer customers a complete package that allows the company to control both costs and schedule.

The wider North American acceptance of modular building in the hotel industry comes as Champion’s United Kingdom Caledonian division continues to press the envelope, building up to 17 story modular apartments and hotels throughout the United Kingdom.

“From our operations in the United Kingdom, we have known for some time from that modular construction is the future of hotel and apartment building. What surprises me is how quickly North America has embraced this new building method, and we at Champion are proud to play our part in that fundamental change in the way we build,” Lawless said.

About Champion

Troy, Michigan-based Champion Home Builders, Inc. is the number one brand in off-site residential and commercial construction which, through its operating subsidiaries, manufactures buildings at 30 facilities in North America and the United Kingdom. Champion built homes are sold through a network of more than 1,000 builders, retailers and developers located throughout North America.

Champion Commercial Structures, a division of Champion, specializes in multifamily, commercial and industrial modular construction serving developers, builders and large value institutional clients. The Champion Commercial Family operates in the USA (Champion Commercial Structures), the UK (Caledonian Building Systems) and in Canada (Gibraltar Industries).

Montpelier, VT (PRWEB) December 06, 2012

Upgrades in snowmaking paired with ideal temperatures have propelled Vermont ski resorts into a promising early season. After starting the season with the most ski areas open in the country for Thanksgiving, Vermont’s snowguns have launched the resorts into December with nearly 20% open terrain for skiers and riders, the strongest opening since the epic 2008-2009 season.

“We can certainly attribute a successful early season to our expansive 80% statewide snowmaking coverage,” said Ski Vermont President Parker Riehle. “The resorts’ investments in state-of-the-art, highly efficient snowmaking combined with early season snowfall have given us the boost we need to fulfill the pent up demand of skiers and riders.”

Vermont ski areas also boasted some of the earliest openings in the state’s history. Killington Resort opened for pass-holders in mid-October and for the season on November 5, 2012. Smugglers’ Notch Resort saw its earliest opening in 5 years with more available terrain than in the last four, helping early season lift ticket sales and bookings, which in the last two weeks have been some of the strongest in 3 years.

“Burke Mountain had its earliest and most successful opening ever, opening December 1st,” said Hannah Collins, Burke’s Marketing Manager. “And with the new upgrades in our snowmaking equipment we were also opening with the most trails that we ever have.”

Jay Peak Resort had its best opening weekend in the resort’s history and that excitement is projecting forward. Jay Peak is averaging a 93% occupancy across all of its lodging properties with most holidays already sold out. Jay Peak and Burke Mountain have invested a combined $1.5 million in snowmaking upgrades in expanded coverage and low-energy snow guns.

Okemo Resort is boasting its earliest opening since 2003 and the fourth earliest in Okemo’s 57-year history. Cold temperatures in early November allowed the resort to open for the 2012-13 season on November 8. Over the summer, Okemo added 42 new HKD Snowmakers SV-10 tower guns to its arsenal. Featuring adjustable water flow levers, nozzle versatility and advanced valving technology, the HKD Snowmakers SV-10 tower guns make snow more efficiently at closer-to-freezing temperatures.

Other investments into snowmaking that have helped propel the success of this early ski season include Bromley’s addition of 60 new permanent energy efficient HKD tower guns and Smugglers’ Notch Resort’s investment of over $1,000,000 adding 150 new high efficiency guns. Stowe Mountain Resort also invested in its state-of-the-art snowmaking operations with 4.7 million dollars in new equipment and upgrades that included 325 HKD tower guns, 150 energy efficient land guns, 16 Super Pole Cat fan guns and seven miles of new snowmaking pipe.

As temperatures drop to seasonal levels, Vermont ski resorts are firing up their guns yet again to prepare for another stellar early season weekend. Middlebury College Snow Bowl plans to open for the season on Saturday, December 8th and Bromley Mountain and Burke Mountain will reopen for the public on Saturday as well.

Ski season is just around the corner and looking for the right slopes at the right price can seem like a challenging tasks. To help those enthusiastic skiers with a reasonable budget make the right choice, British daily The Guardian and the travel website Skyscanner have both published lists of affordable ski resorts around the world for the upcoming season.

While The Guardian‘s choices are more traditional, including resorts in well known places in the French Alps, Austria and Switzerland, Skyscanner’s choices are almost all located in Eastern Europe. But perhaps the main difference between the two lists is budget. The average rate for a six-day pass in The Guardian’s list is around £180 ($286) compared to an average cost of aorund £90 ($143) in the SkyScanner list.

Guardian’s editors picks:

Söll, Austria, the learn-to-ski resort, was also singled out by The Telegraph as the “best ski resort for value”. Six-day ski pass for £188 ($298). Nearest airport: Innsbruck.

Montgenèvre, France, this family-friendly resort is located on the French side of the border in the linked Italy/France area. Montgenèvre’s 400km (248m) of pistes on the Milky Way are fit for beginners and intermediates. It too was praised by The Telegraph as an “unpretentious, family-friendly resort with plenty of traditional Alpine charm.” Six-day Milky Way ski pass £185 ($294). Nearest airport: Turin.

La Tzoumaz, Switzerland, located in the Four Valleys, this village allows access to the pricey but spectacular 410km (254m) of slopes of Verbier. It also offers affordable accommodation and restaurants. Six-day Four Valleys lift pass £234 ($371). Nearest airport: Geneva.

Avajan, in the French Pyrénées, is an alternative to the French Alpine resorts offering small villages frequented by Spanish and French skiers. Six-day St Lary lift pass £192 ($305). Nearest airport: Toulouse.

St Martin de Bellevile, France is located in the Three Valleys ski area next to Méribel, Courcheval and Val Thorens and has access to 600km (372m) of piste. Six-day Three Valleys pass £207 ($329), six-day Méribel pass £170 ($270). Nearest airport: Chambéry.

Hochfügen, Austria allows access to Mayrhofen and its 617km (383m) of pistes at affordable prices. Located next to the Hitertux glacier, constant and good snow is guaranteed throughout the season. A week’s Zillertal SuperSki pass is available for £173 ($275). Nearest airport: Innsbruck.

Les Houches, France is located at the bottom of the Chamonix Valley, an excellent option for extreme skiers. Six-day Mont Blanc unlimited pass £212 ($337), six-day Les Houches pass £147 ($233). Nearest airport: Geneva.

Andermatt, Switzerland is a great option for confident skiers as its top lift soars 2,963 meters. Offers a £165 ($262) week pass, one of the cheapest compared to other Swiss resorts in the region. Closest airport: Zurich.

Jay Peak, Vermont, US with an investment of $200m in infrastructure, Jay Peak has become a top-class resort offering an indoor waterpark, ice arena, golf course as well as skiing and snowboarding pistes. Five-day lift pass for £309 ($491). Nearest airport: Boston.

Ogden, Utah, US was described by The Guardian as an “amazing-value destination,” this city is located near Salt Lake City airport with access to resorts such as Snowbasin, Wolf Creek or Powder Mountain.

Skyscanner suggestions:

Poiana-Brasov, Romania, a good option for beginners and intermediate skiers, Poiana Brasov is the best known Romanian ski resort among budget travelers with a six-day pass lift for £87 ($138). Nearest airport: Bucharest.

Vogel, Slovenia offers a good number of off-piste options for experienced skiers as well as easier ones for beginners. The best feature of the resort perhaps is its locations, just next to the Bohinj Lake. A six-day pass lift is available for £113 ($179). Nearest airport: Ljubljana.

Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic with 23 lifts and 20 runs, this resort is suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers. The six-day ski pass is available for £96 ($152). Nearest airport: Prague.

Additionally, Killington is featuring a Christmas Ski Stay Free lodging package that includes a free lodging and lift ticket on Christmas Day.

Mad River Glen

The National Park Service approved this recognition of Mad River Glen’s historic value on July 5, 2012. Interestingly, the most significant contributing factor to the designation is the ski trails themselves. Other contributing factors include the view shed, the Long Trail, buildings and of course Mad River Glen’s iconic Single Chair.

Magic Mountain

Magic will be busy making snow over the coming Thanksgiving holiday as they prepare for opening day on December 8th. The new TimberQuest high trees ropes obstacle course and zip lines will be open on Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend so the young, and not-so-young, can work off the turkey feast in the great outdoors.

November is also the time of year for Magic’s fan-favorite “3-Pack” of tickets. The 3-Pack is only $129 and the tickets are good anytime this season and can even be transferred to family and friends–anyone. The 3-Pack makes a great holiday gift but is only sold until November 30th, so visit http://www.magicmtn.com now. Trot off the calories from that extra slice of pie with Okemo’s 5k race on Nov. 24. Holiday wish lists take shape during the on-snow Super Demo Dec. 8.
